1. Introduction

FastClip.dev ("we," "us," "our") provides a pay-as-you-go video processing API and browser tool. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you use our service.

We operate on a privacy-first principle. Video content is processed on-demand and automatically deleted after 24 hours unless you choose to pin it. We do not permanently store your viewing history.

3. Data We Collect

3.1 Account Data

  • Email address - used for authentication, notifications, and support
  • Authentication data - password hash (email/password users) or social sign-in token
  • Account balance - stored in cents, tracks your pay-as-you-go funds

3.2 Payment Data

  • Billing customer ID and payment method tokens - we never see or store your full card number
  • Transaction history - deposits, charges, refunds, and signup credits

3.3 Usage Data

  • Job records - source URL, clip parameters (start/end time, format, quality), job status, cost
  • API key metadata - key prefix, creation date, last used timestamp (full keys are hashed and not recoverable)
  • Technical data - IP address, browser type, request timestamps (for rate limiting and security)

3.4 Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not permanently store original videos, processed clips, or your viewing/clipping history
  • We do not collect special categories of data (race, religion, health, biometrics, etc.)
  • We do not track you across other websites

4. How We Use Your Data

  • Provide the service - process clips, manage your balance, deliver download links
  • Authentication - verify your identity with secure sign-in systems (email/password or social sign-in)
  • Payments - process deposits and charges through secure billing infrastructure
  • Transactional emails - send verification, payment confirmations, low balance warnings, and security notices
  • Security & abuse prevention - rate limiting, fraud detection, enforcing terms of service
  • Service improvement - aggregate, pseudonymous usage statistics

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data for external marketing.

5. Video & Clip Processing

When you submit a clip or download request:

  1. We temporarily download the relevant portion (or full video for download requests) from the source
  2. We process it according to your parameters (trim, convert, extract audio)
  3. The processed file is uploaded to temporary storage
  4. You receive a download link valid for 24 hours
  5. After 24 hours, the file is permanently deleted from our servers — unless you pin it

Pinned clips are stored permanently in your account until you unpin or delete them, subject to your storage quota (1 GB free, additional storage available for purchase).

For transcript requests, we extract the transcript from the source video. No video file is stored — only the transcript text is returned to you.

For AI Analyze requests, we first attempt to use the video's existing transcript. If no transcript is available, the video may be temporarily downloaded and sent to our AI provider for analysis. In all cases, video files are deleted immediately after processing. No video data is permanently stored — only the extracted timestamps are returned to you.

FastClip.dev functions solely as a content processing tool, not a content host or distributor.

6. Data Sharing & Processing

We process and disclose data only as necessary to operate and secure the service. The following third-party services are used:

  • Stripe (payment processing) - email and payment card details
  • Google OAuth (social login) - email address, if you choose to sign in with Google
  • Resend (email delivery) - email address and email content
  • Cloudflare R2 (temporary file storage) - processed clip files (auto-deleted after 24 hours)
  • Google Gemini (AI analysis) - video transcript or video/audio data for timestamp extraction
  • PostHog (product analytics) - pseudonymous usage events and session replays with input masking

We do not sell personal data and do not disclose it for external marketing.

7. Data Retention

  • Account data - retained while your account is active. Deleted when you delete your account.
  • Transaction records - retained only as long as needed for operational, legal, and accounting compliance.
  • Processed clips/downloads - automatically deleted 24 hours after creation, unless pinned.
  • Pinned clips - stored until you unpin or delete them, or delete your account. Subject to your storage quota (1 GB free, additional storage available for purchase).
  • Job records - retained while your account is active (source URLs, parameters, status). Deleted with your account.
  • Server logs - retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging, then purged.

8. Security

  • All traffic encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
  • Signed-in browser API access uses secure HttpOnly session cookies
  • API keys stored as one-way cryptographic hashes. We cannot recover your full key
  • Passwords are salted and hashed before storage
  • Card numbers are handled by secure billing infrastructure. We never see or store full card numbers
  • Clip download links are pre-signed with 24-hour expiry
  • CORS restricted to our frontend domain
  • Signed payment webhooks are verified on every event
  • Rate limiting on all API endpoints
  • Server logs retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging (see Section 7)

9. Cookies

We use minimal cookies and browser storage for authentication, security, and product analytics. Signed-in API sessions are maintained with secure HttpOnly cookies. We may use browser storage for compatibility state, attribution (for example UTM fields), and anti-abuse identifiers. Product analytics and replay are configured with privacy controls such as input masking. We do not use advertising cookies.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data (account info, transaction history, and job records — contact us to request an export)
  • Object to or restrict processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings modal. This permanently removes account data, pinned clips, and API keys. Limited financial/compliance records may be retained where required by law. Remaining balance is forfeited. Deposits are non-refundable.

If we terminate your account for a Terms of Service violation, the same data deletion applies. You will be notified by email. Remaining balance is forfeited.

11. User Responsibility

You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to clip the content you submit. FastClip.dev is a video editing tool. You must comply with the terms of service of the source platforms and all applicable copyright laws. See our Terms of Service for full details.

12. Children

FastClip.dev is not intended for use by anyone under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we discover we have collected data from a child under 16, we will delete it immediately.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
